– We authenticate on the server side using a simple API token key and password secret.
– Only we can generate and provide an API token and secret.
– A user can only have a single valid API token and secret per account.
– Rate limiting is done using a rolling 30 day ceiling for each API endpoint.
The BAT 12 API Endpoints
– Currently we only offer a single endpoint for the BAT 12 Project returning comment summaries and bid history charts.
– The endpoint is /bat12projectcommentschart/.
The BAT 12 /bat12projectcommentschart/ Endpoint Request Requires The Following Inputs
* ‘api-token’ (header)
* ‘api-secret’ (header)
* ‘vin’ = the VIN or chassis number of the auction vehicle (parameter)
* ‘auction_url’ = the vehicle’s auction page url starting with https://bringatrailer.com/listing/ (parameter)
The BAT 12 /bat12projectcommentschart/ Endpoint Response Parameters Are The Following
* ‘status’ = see codes below
* ‘message’ = see codes below
* ‘vin’ = the VIN or chassis number of the auction vehicle
* ‘type’ = seller type dealer or private party
* ‘description’ = BaT auction header description
* ‘positive_comments’ = the positive comments summary
* ‘neutral_comments’ = the neutral comments summary
* ‘negative_comments’ = the negative comments summary
* ‘bid_history_chart’ = the bid history chart for the auction
The BAT 12 /bat12projectcommentschart/ Endpoint Response Codes Are The Following
* 200 = “request success”
* 400 = “syntax failure” = bad request syntax
* 401 = “invalid credentials” = unrecognized API Token and/or Secret
* 403 = “forbidden” = not authorized to request endpoint
* 404 = “unsupported vehicle” = ‘vin’ was not found in the database (with no default to the ‘auction_url’)
* 404 = “unsupported auction” = ‘auction_url’ does not start with https://bringatrailer.com/listing/
* 429 = “exceeded rate limit” = exceeded per second, per day, per month or other limits
* 500 = “server error” = internal server or other error
The BAT 12 /bat12projectcommentschart/ Endpoint In Application
– If the ‘vin’ parameter is not in the database the request will fail.
– If the ‘vin’ parameter is not in the database and a valid ‘auction_url’ is provided then we will attempt to create the comment summary and bid history chart and add them to the database. This process adds the ‘vin’ parameter to the database.
– Best practice is to submit both the ‘vin’ and ‘auction_url’ request parameters.
BAT 12 API Pricing
– High volume sellers on Bring a Trailer – $100 per month – unlimited requests restricted to auctions in which they are the seller. Requires BAT 12 Project attribution.
